What?

• Design test to measure permeability of thin composite material
• Must be designed for wide range of permeation

How?

• Designed two test cells based on ASTM-D1434 (intended for plastic films / sheets)
• 1 general purpose, heat controlled cell, allows V flow, bubble, & pressure decay tests
• 1 Vaccuum cell for decay testing of low permeability samples
• O-ring / groove design, transducers & fittings spec'd for desired accuracy, operating range & cost.

Results.

• Discovered error in supplier test methods leading to significant improvement in material formulation
• Allowed permeability to be quickly checked as samples improved
• Test cells later used by other engineers to measure thin materials
